Here is a list of things that I think you need to ask yourself....
Good reasons to buy or move:
- Job transfer (usually a promotion)
- Family size changes (Babies, kids moving out, combined families)
- Neighbourhood changes (traffic noise, zoning changes)
- Shorten commuting time ( ie: Road rage)
- Neigbors from hell (self explanatory...)
- Retiring (or age related issues)
- Location (reasons that are good for you, not opinions from family or friends)
- Affordability issues (confidentiality is key in these circumstances)
Bad reasons to buy:
- everyone else is buying bigger and fancier (huh?)
- That real estate investment guru said so (you paid how much for this advise?)
- It’s a guarantee that I can just flip this house for huge money (see above)
- Low mortgage rates means I can buy the mansion on the corner (we need to talk)
